Each week I will write two blogs one a preview and one a review of the weeks action and I hope you will join me as the greatest travelling show in sport makes its way around the country.This week I will take a look at the players and assess their chances of doing well in this competition.nbspRonnie Baxter.nbspRonnie is an experienced campaigner and his quickfire style is well suited to the short format of the Premier League games. He will also be wanting to make his mark after a long absence from this competition. For some reason the pundits seem to be ignoring Ronnie as someone who could be a force in this tournament however whilst he may well not make the top four he is definitely capable of ruffling a few of the more fashionable names feathers along the way.nbspTerry Jenkins.nbspTerry has a decent record in the tournament and is now used to performing in front of the monster sized crowds. He hasnt been at his best for a while and can also sometimes be slow out of the traps which will see him get punished here. The first game against Ronnie will be a big one as the longer you go without a point on the board the more anxious you can get and being anxious playing darts in front of 10000 people is not advisable believe me.nbspMervyn King.nbspMervyn is a top class player and capable of winning this competition. One concern is that Mervyn doesnt like the role of panto villain which he seems to have been assigned in my absence and he also doesnt seem to like the noise that the crowd generates either. That said I definitely fancy him to make the top four and possibly even the final. He will win a major tournament sooner rather than later too and who knows he may even take this one come May.nbsp nbspAdrian Lewis.nbspAdrian will be looking to make his mark here he also needs to fulfil his promise and win a major title sooner rather than later. Adrian lacks a bit of consistency and over fourteen weeks that could be an issue however there is no doubting his natural ability and when he hits top form he is a joy to watch. I would love to see him win this competition as despite a bit of history between us he is a good lad and a terrific player.nbspRaymond van Barneveld.nbspRaymond is a top quality player but has never really made his mark in the Premier League with the constant travelling back and forth to Holland may well being a factor in that. The long haul of the competition spread over fourteen weeks doesnt seem to help Raymond either. His class should see him through most weeks but in such a strong competition and also taking into account Raymonds relative dip in form it all ensures that he wont have it all his own way and he will have to work hard to make the top four this year.nbspPhil Taylor.nbspI unleashed a monster when I beat Phil in the Premier League at Coventry in 2008 as after that night he came back to destroy everyone in his path. He has continued to largely do that for the last 18 months and when he is playing like that he is unbeatable. There were a few signs at The Players Championship in Purfleet that Phil was not at his best and he is also suffering from a virus which may hamper his progress but he will be firing on all cylinders again sooner rather than later and when he does the other lads better watch out.nbspJames Wade.nbspJames will want to retain his title which he deservedly won last year. He has also had a bit of a lean time of it lately and he will want to address that issue as well so we should see a fired up James Wade which is good for the game. On his best form he is a top class player but when he is a bit off the pace he can be vulnerable. An on form James would be a shoe in for the top four and if he can maintain his consistency over the long run then he will be there or thereabouts again this year. nbspSimon Whitlock.nbspSimon was brilliant during the World Championship and his confidence will be up. He will be chomping at the bit to get stuck into the Premier League and if he can replicate his endeavours at the Ally Pally then he could do very well. One concern is that Simon will not have seen a crowd like he will be playing in front of at the O2 Arena and one wonders how he will cope with playing in front of over 10000 punters. I enjoyed the compitition so that was half the battle.Q How did you get interested in darts? And who were your darting heroes when your were a kid?Adrian Lewis We always had a dart board up in the house as my mum played county. I used to have the odd throw when I was younger and it wasnt untill I was 17 that I really enjoyed playing. Before that I was all football. My favorite players were Phil Taylor and Tony OShea. In truth I respect all players when we go toe to toe on the oche. Or does it take the pressure away? Andwho in youre eyes is the biggest talent?Adrian Lewis I have never felt pressure as I only tend to concentrate on my own game and as for talent I am probably the most gifted natural young player around and with experience it will hopfully bring the titles.Q Ive seen pics of you that make it look as if you are left eye dominant. At times it looks like the dart is drawn to your left eye. I used to watch him at home on the telly there is no feeling like it.6 Youre currently ranked number five in the world but can you see yourself breaking into the top two in the near future?Ive been fourth for the last two years. I was third for a short time quite a while ago. Its very hard to get higher there are a lot of other players coming through the ranks. I can definately see myself staying in the top ten for two or three years. The standard of play has been terrific and 100 plus three dart averages which were once a rarity are now the very least you need to get to the latter stages of the big PDC tournaments.When Leighton Rees won his first World Championship in 1977 he posted a 92.40 average and when Eric Bristow won the first of his five titles two years later his average was a measly 88.10.That kind of average would be doing well to win a game of note now and even allowing for better darts equipment and thinner wires on the boards I think the standard of play in the game has come on leaps and bounds.I am sure that the top names of yesteryear like Eric Bristow John Lowe Jocky Wilson and so on would have adapted well to the modern era and stillnbspbeen at the top of the pile however one or two of the alsorans from the past wouldnrsquot have a chance now.Itrsquos not just the standard that has improved but also the rewards. Itrsquos a great venue with a lot of history as it staged the famous News of the World tournaments. In many ways they were the first sign that there was a big interest in the game and that there was a market for competition darts.Whilst the Ally Pally is a great place I still have fond memories of the previous venue for the tournament the Circus Tavern. It wasnrsquot a glamorous spot by any means and I know that when he joined the PDC that Raymond van Barneveld couldnrsquot believe we played our World Championship there.However with its low roof and close proximity to the crowd it made for a great atmosphere and it was also the place where I made my name in the game. I reached three World finals there and was also involved in two of the most controversial moments in the history of the game.Firstly I refused to shake the hand of Phil Taylor after he beat me in the final and secondly there was the time that Adrian Lewis walked off the stage during a game against me.
